I currently have 3 spaces for new hammered dulcimer students, for beginners through to intermediate and advanced and in all styles of music. I have decades of professional experience as a professional hammered dulcimer composer, performer and session musician.
A rich and diverse archive of repertoire is sourced for hammered dulcimer lessons; and notation pdfs and audio files are provided and tailored for each individual. During your free informative, friendly and welcoming introductory lesson I will discuss with you your hopes and aims as a dulcimer player, and consequently a tuition plan can be developed and mutually agreed.
I studied for my Masters degree in composition at the London College of Music where I was awarded the Howard Goodall prize for composition.
I am also the only UK dulcimer teacher who teaches in all styles of music and I am also the only UK hammered dulcimer player to have taught at the world renowned China Conservatory in Beijing. I am also the inventor of the Fluid Piano and Fluid Dulcimer, both of which are invaluable resources for tuition.
I can provide lessons online via Google Meet for hammered dulcimer players outside of the UK: I use an Insta360 Link AI-powered 4K webcam for online lessons. This provides exceptional quality. I also provide lessons in person for hammered dulcimer players based in the UK.
As mentioned above I offer a free introductory dulcimer lesson in which we can discuss and focus on a person’s individual requirements and musical preferences: whether traditional folk, classical, popular & contemporary song, jazz, improvisation or composition. Lessons also focus on developing rhythmic, expressive & dynamic techniques through the use of a comprehensive range of percussion and drum rudiments. Lessons are conscientiously planned and designed for what you would personally like to achieve.
I charge £40 (GBP) per lesson for UK based musicians, $50 per lesson for US based musicians and 47 Euros per lesson for musicians based in all other European countries. I also offer a free introductory online hammered dulcimer lesson to anyone from other countries around the world.
